The American-based Australian had planned to race in Mount Gambier on Friday night before crossing to Premier Speedway on Saturday.
But flight and weather delays put paid to Tatnell’s plans.
The three-time Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic winner’s car owners, Mount Gambier father-son duo Ray and Ash Scott, were forced to play the waiting game.
“Flying into Dallas there was a storm and he was redirected to Oklahoma,” Ash Scott said.
“That was the first hassle and then he couldn’t get a connecting flight.
“They put him in a motel overnight and he went back (to the airport) this morning and the plane had broken down and he couldn’t find a flight to LA or Dallas.”
Scott said “at this stage (Warrnambool on December 29) looks a no-go unfortunately”.
“It would be nice to get a phone call in the morning to say he’s here and we could scoot across to Warrnambool to race,” he said.
He said the team opted against finding another driver to fill the seat until Tatnell arrived.
“We contemplated it but haven’t. There’s still a long way (in the season) to go with the Classic and we didn’t want to risk tearing stuff,” he said. “Brooke is good on equipment.”
Tatnell is expected to race WSS events in Avalon on Sunday and Warrnambool on New Year’s Day.
