Police have identified a cyclist who spent Christmas alone in hospital after he was struck by a car in Warrnambool.

The 43-year-old Warrnambool man was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after his BMX bike collided with a silver Toyota sedan travelling south on Warrnambool's Morris Road about 8.45pm Christmas Eve.
He was not wearing a helmet.
Police were unable to establish the identity of the man for about four days.
The male driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.
The exact cause of the collision is still being investigated.
