Warrnambool Gold and Koroit Blue have lost just one game each after nine rounds, while perennial grand finalist City Memorial Red is in third place and building.
Warrnambool Blue holds onto fourth place but has some challengers on its heels.
Dennington Red is one of those, its four wins nestling it in seventh place.
Dennington Red’s Maureen Drennan, who is also the WDBD chairperson, said she was happy with her team’s progress.
“I think we have improved a lot, we are playing good bowls,” Drennan said.
“We had four players out last week and only lost by eight shots.
“Outside of the top three, that fourth spot is still pretty open.
“The results have been topsy-turvy with some surprise results.”
Dennington Red will start favourite today when it comes up against City Memorial Gold.
The match of the round will be City Memorial Red at home to Koroit Blue.
While Koroit Blue is coming off its first loss of the season, to Warrnambool Gold, Drennan still believes it has the firepower to bounce back.
“Koroit Blue is a very professional team, they are very consistent,” she said.
“I think that will give them the edge in what should be a really even game.”
Other round 10 games include Terang Green hosting Warrnambool Blue, Timboon Gold taking on Port Fairy Red and Warrnambool Gold at home to Mortlake Blue.
