As the rivalry between the Warrnambool saleyards and the newcomer WVLX continues, Tim Nowell said the Mortlake saleyards might release its throughput figures after January 22, 12 months since it opened, so people could compare “apples with apples”.
To support their call for Warrnambool City Council to roof part of the Warrnambool saleyards, stakeholders have touted the Warrnambool yard’s good performance in recent months.
From July 1 to the end of November, the Warrnambool saleyards’ numbers have been up on the number of cattle penned compared to the same period last year.
Mr Nowell said he did not want to get into a slanging match with Warrnambool about which saleyard had the highest numbers.
But he said he was happy with Mortlake’s performance and expected its numbers to grow over the next few years.
