Daniel Griffiths, 23, of Swanston Street, pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury and contravening a court order.
He was placed on a 12-month community corrections order with conditions he do 50 hours’ unpaid community work.
On August 2 Griffiths attended the victim’s home while drunk and became verbally abusive. He kicked her in the forearms and legs, forcing her to shield a six-month old child that was sitting in her lap.
He damaged several walls by headbutting and striking them with his elbow.
A two-year-old child was also present in the room. The victim suffered bruises.
Magistrate Franz Holzer said Griffiths was a young man with an intellectual disability but the behaviour was serious.
