The long-serving Pirates’ opening bowler will notch up game 200 in the club’s first game of a Warrnambool and District Cricket Association twenty20 double-header against Nestles and Woodford.
Port Fairy begins its day at Reid Oval against Factory before jumping down the highway to Avery’s Paddock to host the in-form Eels.
Dwyer, who works as a postman in Port Fairy, said the weekend was another example where the Pirates needed to be on top of their game.
“It’s a big weekend and there is no easy games in division one and it’s a sign of a pretty strong competition,” the 45-year-old said.
“You are always going to have a tough opponent no matter where they are on the ladder. I see Nestles and Woodford as teams that are hard to beat.
“The travel is what you have to do and it’s not an issue. We will all pile into our cars and drive back and I think Woodford are in the same boat.”
The right-arm fast bowler – who has played 69 matches in division one, 127 in division two and three in the third division – said fitness was the key to his longevity of his career after he started playing at the late age of 29.
“Keeping fit and healthy obviously helps and I have always loved the sport,” he said.
“Being at the one club in this sport is made better by the friends you make and wanting to stay around with them.
“Kalon Wilkie is still in the team and I have played a lot of my cricket with him and he is a good mate. Shaun Ploenges has been another. Kalon, Shaun and I have played all our cricket together for the lats 15-16 years.”
Dywer has accumulated a long list of achievements.
He has collected 392 wickets and made 1611 runs since his debut against Brierly-Christ Church in the 2003-4 season.
The fast bowlers best figures are 7-29 and his highest batting score is 90.
He is a two-time division two premiership player (2004-5 and 2010-11) and was part of the Pirates’ first XI that was promoted to division one in the 2011-12 season.
He is also a life member and features in the club’s team of the decade and the Paul Sheehan’s best of the past 25 years side.
