“A family-friendly, pretty casual atmosphere is what we are going for,” Ms Barnes said.
With each Sunday event starting at 3pm and running till dark people are encouraged to bring a rug and a picnic and enjoy an evening sitting in the gardens.
“We are going for a bit of a different feel,” Ms Barnes said. “We will have some chilled out beats, DJ stuff, with reggae, funk, soul and blues, not live music.”
Matchbox Espresso will be serving a variety of cocktails and mocktails, plus beer and wine, alongside their coffee. Food provided by a rotating selection of vendors.
“We will be bringing in a different food tent or truck to feature each week,” Ms Barnes said. “The Crepe Man will be the first vendor.”
There will be giant games such as Jenga and Connect 4 for people to play with, and some bean bags provided for seating. Patrons are welcome to pack their own games with their picnic, but are not allowed to bring in their own alcohol.
“It’s all pretty casual, we just want it to be a relaxed Sunday afternoon just hanging out with your mates,” Ms Barnes said.
“We want people to come back to the Fletcher Jones Gardens, especially if they haven’t visited for a while.
“There is so much for kids to look at and do, you can take the time sit and enjoy your drinks.” she said.
