The 19-year-old didn’t seem to be bothered by big game nerves as she led the Australian’s bowling and fielding display to restrict England to 105 at Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
The leg-spinner took two consecutive wickets in her second over and was on a hat-trick entering her third before finishing with figures of 2-11.
Wareham also collected the wicket of in-form English batter Amy Jones for four with a direct-hit run-out.
She was also calm under pressure to catch a ball skied by English captain Heather Knight (25).
“Fielding is where I pride myself on and it's definitely one of my strengths and the key for me is I really love fielding,” Wareham told The Standard before the World Cup. “Anytime I’m put on the field I look to relish every moment and take every chance as it comes and that’s what helps me.”
The Australian’s chased down the English total in 15 overs to reclaim the top prize in the women’s short form cricket. Captain Meg Lanning (28 not out) led the way to hit the final runs alongside player of the match Ashleigh Gardner (33 not out) to claim the eight-wicket victory.
The Southern Stars only lost one game on their way to their fourth twenty20 crown.
For Wareham and her Southern Stars teammates it’s back to Australia for the start of the fourth season of the Women’s Big Bash League.
The Mortlake export enters her fourth season with the Melbourne Renegades.
