Claney and Lush won the men’s and women’s Moyne Senior Classic titles respectively.
Kingston Heath’s Claney defended his crown, scoring an even par 72 on day two to finish with 145 for the tournament. Claney defeated Rossdale competitor Geoff Charnley on a countback.
Lush, who represented Gardiners Run, collected the women’s scratch stableford crown with 47 points, edging out Yarrawonga’s Sue Dawes.
Commonwealth’s Alan Buckley won the men’s nett event with 139. Helen Drake, who represented Dorset, won the women’s stableford with 67 points.
The Melbourne-based Claney, 65, said he was happy to leave with back-to-back titles.
“It was two brilliant days weather-wise, similar to last year, the course was good and as far as my own form goes, it was acceptable except for a triple (bogey) on one hole yesterday,” he said.
“I have been coming here for a few years now. I think it is a really good golf course, great fun to play and it’s the last event on the Victorian seniors calendar for the year.”
Claney plays on the Victorian and Australian seniors tours and recently competed in Japan.
He had three months off golf this year to travel around Australia but is excited to be back competing.
The Moyne Senior Classic followed the Warrnambool Senior Amateur which was played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Golf Australia Victorian event officer Dylan Grandell said the two events showcased the south-west.
“Numbers were really good – Warrnambool had 18 more than last year and Port Fairy had a full field,” he said.
“The weather was good for down here so that helped a lot and the courses presented in top condition.”
