Portland police Sergeant Sean Elliott said the incident happened at 12.45pm on Tuesday near the old Mobil service station in Percy Street.
Glenelg shire councillor Chrissy Hawker's daughter Nikki-Jay was driving north on Percy Street when the tray ute crashed into the front of her white Jeep.
The ute crossed Townsend Street and collided with the Jeep.
There were three witnesses to the incident - including a worker installing security cameras at the service station.
None were able to get a registration plate number or knew the make or model of the ute.
There was no security camera footage of the incident.
No one was injured.
Police requested anyone with information about the driver of the white ute contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
