The Camperdown-based competitor broke his right collarbone a fortnight ago and will have a plate inserted on Friday.
“I was racing a grass track at Caramut two weeks ago and sort of came in over a little jump and a bloke hit my back tyre,” he said.
“I didn’t think it was that bad. Usually you can’t lift your hands over your head with a broken collarbone but I could do that.”
The injury setback is the latest for Bouchier, a 21-year-old who has raced since he was seven and got his first motorbike aged five.
A broken left collarbone, broken leg, wrist and arm injuries have also stopped the Warrnambool Motorcycle Club captain in his tracks.
“It’s part of the sport,” he said.
Bouchier, who is the grocery manager at Woolworths in East Warrnambool and travels from Camperdown five days a week for work, said he’d enjoyed success this season despite two injury hurdles.
“This year we raced in the Victorian titles and I got fifth in my class and fifth in Western Regions,” he said.
“I missed the first round because I broke my leg and I missed the last round (on Sunday) because I’d broken my collarbone.”
Bouchier said he enjoyed his role as Warrnambool club captain.
He tries to encourage and provide tips for younger riders and helps prepare the Lake Gillear track.
Shipwreck Coast Motocross Club members fared well at the six-round Western Region series.
