Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton and the Police Association of Victoria Secretary Wayne Gatt are walking across Victoria between October 1 and 23.
They hoped to raise $500,000 to professionalise and expand the Retired Peer Support Officer program, a volunteer group of retired police members supporting more than 700 mostly former members experiencing a range of mental health issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and alcohol and substance abuse.
CWA group president Pam Andrew said it was a great cause and CWA branches had thrown their support behind the initiative.
Last week Warrnambool police Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh joined Mr Ashton in walking 15 kilometres over Mount Hotham, which took seven hours.
"It was very special to be able to be part of the walk, but it was a pretty tough day," he said.
