Regional Development Australia (RDA) Barwon South West chair Bruce Anson said the fund helped the Barwon South West region achieve fantastic economic outcomes for the region and gets projects off the ground.
“More than $11.1 million has already been allocated to infrastructure and community projects across the Barwon South West region through Rounds One and Two of the Building Better Regions Fund which is a big win for our region,” said Mr Anson.
Grants to local projects from the fund have so far ranged from the $1,250,000 towards an extension of Warrnambool Racing Club’s Matilda Room to increase its capacity from 300 to 600 guests, $108,000 towards the Stage 1 redevelopment of the Camperdown Theatre and $16,400 towards the Terang and Region Financial Services Needs Analysis.
Mr Anson said the funding for Round Three would have a big focus on tourism with $45 million earmarked for tourism related infrastructure projects.
He said RDA Barwon South West was providing letters of support for eligible organisations that applied for funding to strengthen their applications. The closing date for letters of support is October 31.
There are two funding streams available – the Community Investments stream which funds community activities, new local events and regional strategic plans. The other funding stream is for Infrastructure Projects, which supports projects that involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade of existing infrastructure.
Each stream funds projects up to $10 million with minimum funding amounts starting at $5000 for the Community Investment stream and $20,000 for the Infrastructure Projects stream.
