The first-year president is excited about the $2 million facility which will give the Western District Bowls Division club a boost.
Mallett is part of the furniture, having played for Port Fairy for 25 years, and enjoys the pre-match fun the sport brings.
“I like to get out and have a few beers of a night time so that’s a good excuse,” he said of his passion for lawn bowls during the round three tea break on Saturday.
“The company is good. All the visiting clubs are really good. In general all bowling clubs are really good to each other.”
Mallett said Port Fairy, which suffered a 131-79 defeat to City Memorial Red on Saturday, would benefit from its new precinct.
“We have plans for a new clubhouse which is currently being granted by the (Moyne) shire and I’ve had a fair bit to do with that along with a couple of other blokes here with the help of James Purcell, our local member,” he said.
“We are waiting on the council. There’s a few little things we have to overcome in regards to car parking and once we get that all organised I think things will be underway about February-March.
“The plans are for this to be demolished and the new clubhouse be erected.
“It will be about 70 metres long and everything will be new inside so it should be pretty good.
“It just keeps us up with the clubs like City Memorial and Warrnambool and it gives the members something to come home to of a night time after bowls. In general it’s going to be good for the town of Port Fairy as well for different functions they can have here.”
Koroit Blue and Warrnambool Gold remain undefeated after three rounds. Koroit Blue scored a 102-85 win over Terang Green and Warrnambool Gold secured a thumping 136-70 victory against Timboon Gold. Warrnambool Blue was too strong for City Memorial Gold 100-74 and Mortlake Blue recorded a 118-82 triumph over Dennington Red.
