People are expected to flock to Cobden this weekend, for the town’s annual spring festival, a celebration of the local community and surrounding district, in a fun event for all age groups. Following March’s devastating fires, the theme for this year’s Cobden Spring Festival is "Spring, Regrowth & Community”. Now in its 23rd year, the Festival kicks off with the junior fishing competition on the banks of Lake Cobden and continues throughout the weekend.
In line with this year’s theme, the community concert is also billed as a recovery concert, and is sure to be a festival highlight. Starring multi award-winning musician Deb Conway with her husband and music collaborator Willy Zygier, the support acts are talented locals Avalon and Andrea Weel.
Conway is an institution in Australia’s music scene, her success and range of projects spanning recent decades. She was a founding member of the 1980s rock band Do-Ré-Mi, Rolling Stone Australia naming her Best Australian Female Singer in 1988. Conway was awarded Best Female Artist at the 1992 ARIA Awards, and in 2004 she and Zygier released the album Summertown on their own label. It is one of many albums and projects the couple have collaborated on, the most recent being their ninth studio album in 2016, Everybody's Begging.
