The Warrnambool Seahawks export and his teammates spoiled Sydney Kings ‘best signing in NBL history’ Andrew Bogut’s debut game in purple with a 94-83 victory at Qudos Bank Arena.
Sobey (21 points, four assists from 35:31 court time) along with newly appointed 36ers’ captain Daniel Johnson (22 points, 10 rebounds) were the stars in the 11-point upset victory.
Sobey, who also hit 20 points two rebounds and six assists in Adelaide’s eight-point opening game loss to Perth Wildcats on Thursday night, has started the season strongly after impressing in the pre-season against NBA outfit Utah Jazz.
Bogut’s debut was far from disappointing despite the result. The seven-footer finished with 10 rebounds in the opening term alone before the former NBA star finished with six points, 14 boards, four assists and four blocked shots.
Bogut and the Kings have a chance for redemption when they meet the 36ers in Adelaide for Friday’s start to the second round.
