After almost a year of fundraising, led by his mother Courtney, Julian and Doctor, a 22-month-old Labrador, are now inseparable. Julian was born with the genetic disorder, 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, which presents a wide range of health issues for Julian to deal with. Doctor is an assistance dog and is helping Julian deal with the challenges he faces.
Courtney Purcell said the arrival of Doctor has had an immediate impact.
“Doctor has just started attending speech therapy with Julian, whose attention, speech and gestures peak in Doctor’s company,” Ms Purcell said. “I would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Warrnambool, local businesses, family and friends for helping us fundraise the $25,000 we needed to get Doctor.”
Fundraising will be ongoing to cover the $3000 annual costs for Doctor. Go to https://www.facebook.com/Juliansfriendforlife/
