So much so he was at the bar unaware he was making a late charge towards his maiden senior best and fairest victory on Saturday night.
“I was sitting at the edge of the bar chatting away to some of the older fellas at the club,” the 21-year-old centre half-back said.
“I started to get nudges from people around me and I looked up and my name was getting closer and closer to the top.
“It was exciting and a bit of a shock with all the good midfielders in our side.”
Lee, who edged out midfield star Josh Saunders for the club’s top award, said the Roosters were heading into a period were they would look to push for the success which had eluded the Friendlies-based powerhouse since 2011.
“We definitely have the list to go to the next level,” the Warrnambool-based electrician said.
“We are all in the 23-24 age group and have all played close to 50 senior games.
“We are in a good five-year period at the club that has a lot of potential.
“’Bucky’ (Mat Buck) has put us on the right track and it’s a shame he has left us but he has put us where we need to be.”
Lee said the reserves and under 18.5 strong lists would also help drive the club forward.
Midcourter Ally O’Connor stormed to victory over goaler Eliza Dwyer to claim the club’s open grade best and fairest.
