Navalny had just finished serving a 30-day sentence for organising an unauthorised public event and was then jailed on a related charge, state media reported.
Navalny had called on his supporters in recent weeks to conduct protests nationwide against government plans to raise the pension age by at least five years.
Submitted by the ruling United Russia political party, the pension reform plans have been widely disputed.
The country's second-largest political party, the Communist Party, has also held protests against the proposed reform.
