Senior Constable Amy Morel, of Warrnambool Highway Patrol, said an eight-hour Warrnambool district blitz caught five people driving under the influence of drugs.
The motorists, who were intercepted at random, returned a positive roadside swab and secondary drug test.
Senior Constable Morel said the drivers had either methamphetamine or cannabis in their system.
“We usually see a mix of cannabis and meth during our drug testing and the numbers can be up and down, but that is very high for one day,” she said.
Senior Constable Morel said it had been a concerning 24 hours, with a fatality near the Timboon-Colac Road just after 3pm on Tuesday.
“While Tuesday’s fatal didn’t have anything to with drugs, it’s an important reminder to drivers to be careful on the roads.
“Something like this should make people consider what they are doing, in extreme cases this is what can actually happen.”
