Both sides will contest a Ballarat and District Soccer Association preliminary final this weekend after losses in the opening round of the finals series.
Qualifying final day at Morshead Park in Ballarat on Sunday was a day to forget for the Rangers.
The women’s team went down 3-0 to Ballarat SC while the men’s lost to Sebastopol Vikings SC 1-0.
Morshead Park will be the preliminary final venue this coming Sunday with the women up against Ballarat North United FC and the men to play Buninyong SC.
The women’s team will get back two key players for the preliminary final with the return of Chloe Paredes and Wren Wood.
Rangers defender Emily Whelan said the absence of Paredes and Wood in the qualifying final was telling.
“We played really well but we just ran out of steam,” Whelan said.
“They got their three goals in the second half, they were able to keep bringing on fresh legs which made it tough. Our goalkeeper Melinda Gabbe did an amazing awesome job, she played a great game.”
The Rangers have played Ballarat North United FC four times this season, for two wins, one loss and one draw. The men’s team has defeated Buninyong SC in each of its three meetings this season.
Like the women’s team, the men will be hoping to tighten up late in the game, with the goal they conceded to the Vikings in the qualifying final coming in the second half.
