Portland police say the man who stole cash from the Portland RSL was carrying a 30cm knife.
Portland Criminal Investigation Unit released CCTV footage of the incident on Tuesday night.
Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk said police had been through the vision frame by frame and the knife, which was a boning or filleting knife, was quite distinctive.
He said the man did not say anything to the two staff members or customer during the robbery.
Police have again urged anyone with information to contact police.
WEDNESDAY:
POLICE are hunting a man who stole cash from the Portland RSL.
Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk said the man entered the RSL at 9.50pm on Tuesday as two female staff members were preparing to close up.
The man was wearing a balaclava and headed straight to a strong room where the safe was.
The man stole cash from the safe while a customer phoned police.
“By that stage the offender has left via the main entrance and ran across Cape Nelson Road and headed towards Calvert Street,” Detective Sergeant von Tunk said.
“He’s dropped a lot of money which was later picked up by police.”
The man was described as 175cms tall and of a medium build.
He was wearing a blue balaclava, dark sunglasses, a long sleeved skivvy with blue and white horizontal stripes, dark coloured pants or jeans and dark coloured shoes.
Detective Sergeant von Tunk said police recovered the tray that the money was in and dark sunglasses.
He said the staff were shaken by the incident but not injured.
“It’s a bold move to enter at that time,” he said.
“At this point we are treating it as an aggravated burglary.”
He said police would look at CCTV footage and appealed for anyone with any information to contact police.
“It’s a distinctive white and blue stripe top,” he said.
