With more than 48 millimetres of rain falling in the past week, punters need to look for genuine heavy track performers at Warrnambool’s race meeting on Thursday, according to racecourse manager Daniel Lumsden.

The average August rainfall for the past 12 years is 102mm.
But this year more than 140mm has fallen at the course.
“It’s winter racing,” Lumsden said.
“The track will be safe for racing. There was never a doubt we would run but we always knew it would be a very heavy track.
“The running rail will be out three metres from the 750m mark to the 1300m mark.”
Warrnambool-trained galloper Ramp scored an impressive maiden victory at the track earlier this month.
His trainer Symon Wilde is hoping the four-year-old is up to benchmark 64 company.
“It’s a big jump up in class but he’s going well. He showed with his maiden win that he loves wet ground,” he said. “The instructions to Declan Bates will be to allow Ramp to settle out the back before finishing the race off.”
