The former Penshurst teenager will play his first game with the Greater Western Victoria Rebels against Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday.
Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said he hoped the opportunity would help motivate Ewing going forward.
"Getting the opportunity to play as a bottom-age player will hopefully help him get a taste of TAC Cup footy and help springboard him into preseason for 2019,” he said.
"For a lot of players, and particularly the bottom-age players when they come in for their first game they can be a little bewildered by the pace.
"And the boys they will be playing against will be playing AFL next year.
"So hopefully giving him a taste will get the competitive juices flowing and help him get into a mindset of really wanting to get fit and put in a big preseason."
Partington said Ewing, who has had to overcome a tough run with injury, had worked extra hard to get back on the track.
And now the Rebels are looking forward to watching the talented utility enjoy the reward.
"He’ll probably start down forward for us, but the beauty with him and the TAC Cup is you learn and play various positions,” he said.
"So he will probably go down back as he has played there before and we think he has got talent there.
"He is one of those big-bodied players, and we aren't expecting him to come in and get best on ground, but we think he will have an influence wherever he plays."
