Corangamite Shire said feedback from residents had led to three other options being developed for Cairns Street and the foreshore area.
Under the original plan released earlier this year, the foreshore precinct was going to be transformed into a pedestrian promenade that would be closed to all traffic, except for emergency and delivery vehicles.
More than 150 responses were received to the Port Cambell Town Centre plans, which the council said helped shape more design work.
The four options for the precinct are:
- Option one is a pedestrian promenade that includes closure of the foreshore to vehicles (excluding emergency and delivery). No vehicle parking permitted.
- Option two includes a one-way share zone for traffic and pedestrians with 16 angle parks on the street’s north side and three 90-degree parks on the south, facing the ocean.
- Option three is a two-way share zone in Cairns Street with 10 parallel car parks provided on the north side.
- The final option is a one-way shared zone in Cairns Street with 13 angle parking spaces on the north side of the street and 12 spaces at 90 degrees on the south side, with views to the ocean.
Community consultation would now continue, Corangamite Shire’s director of sustainable development Ian Gibb said.
“Once we have gathered that feedback, councillors will again consider the options,” Mr Gibb said.
The concept design options for the Cairns Street foreshore area will be on exhibition until Friday at the Port Campbell General Store, the Corangamite Shire offices and online at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/Port-Campbell-Town-Centre-Project-Update-July-2018
The foreshore revamp is part of a multi-million dollar overhaul of Port Campbell’s town centre, which builds on the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan and the Port Campbell Community plan.
Other plans for the coastal town include a pier-style timber footpath on Lord Street to the headland, native street trees and planting and a proposed bus/visitor park and ride area.
Feedback forms can be dropped in the collection box at the Port Campbell General Store, or filled out online.
