It’s a positive sign when 18-time Australian and 56-time state go karting champion Dave Sera says there is plenty to look forward to in the region’s rising stars.

Sera, 30, who was at Warrnambool Kart Club’s Lake Gillear track on Tuesday for a coaching day with south-west drivers aged between 8-18, was surprised by the club’s next generation.
“They have got a lot of talent and as most kids are these days they don’t have any fear,” he said.
“For the amount of time I have been here they have shown good skills and whether that translates to them being future driving stars who knows, but for now they are doing a good job.”

Twelve drivers from the kart club were present to receive guidance from the experienced go-kart driver, who hung up his helmet five years ago to focus on teaching the next generation.
Club member Nicholas Ryan was excited to have someone like Sera, who drove go-karts for 25 years, in the south-west ahead of round four of the Victorian Country Series on July 21 and 22.
“It’s really good to have a professional race car driver come and help us out and teach us what he knows,” the 15-year-old said.
