The Standard understands the company is in the process of purchasing the site from Canadian giant Saputo.
Bega declined to make a public comment, saying the sale was still under process.
The Koroit site has attracted interest from local and international companies, including Burra Foods and Moon Lake. Saputo agreed to sell the factory due to concerns from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that it would have too much control of milk supply in western Victoria and south-east South Australia, when it bought out the embattled MG.
Saputo already owns Warrnambool Cheese and Butter. Nearly 98 per cent of MG shareholder votes were in favour of the sale to Saputo in April.
Bega’s opening price for the 2018-19 financial year is $5.85 a kilogram milk solids.
