Results from the 2018 community satisfaction survey show ratepayers have given Moyne a mark of 57 when it comes to overall performance.
That is a drop from the 2017 rating of 61.
Cr Jordan Lockett said he would be lying if he said he wasn’t disappointed by the results.
“There is gruelling feedback in areas I think we do quite well in,” he said.
“A lot of what we do is not known to the public and can be communicated better.”
Council’s poorest rating area in the survey was the condition of sealed and unsealed roads across the shire.
A mark of 34 was down from 36 in 2017 for sealed roads and below the large rural shire state average of 48. The rating on unsealed roads fell from 35 to 33.
A report by council officers said the poor result on sealed and unsealed roads was not representative, given 60 per cent of road related issues were concerning state-managed roads.
Cr Ian Smith said it was unfair council was taking a bashing for the condition of state roads.
“We have to be more positive explaining to residents what are council roads and what are VicRoads,” he said.
Cr Danile Meade said council needs to learn from the results.
“We need to take these (results) very seriously and work on trying to improve these issues,” Cr Meade said.
The highest ranking performance area for the shire was elderly support services with a score of 70. Recreational facilities also scored well with 69.
Two areas increased their rating from 2017, business, community and tourism development, up from 66 to 67, and enforcement of local laws, from 64 to 66.
Local streets and footpaths took a hit, dropping from 58 to 50, while satisfaction with lobbying was down from 57 to 52.
The demographic most satisfied with council’s performance was in the age group of 18-34 and from the Port Fairy township.
