The latest major donation to the cause has come from Port Fairy and District Community Bank, which has handed over a cheque for $50,000. Once collected, the half a million dollars will be spent on the internal fit out of the new urgent care unit, which is under construction.
Bank board chair Ralph Leutton said MHS was an important organisation.
“Part of the bank’s strategy is to invest in the community,” he said.
“MHS is something everyone wants to see work and expand and the new urgent care unit will be a wonderful asset.”
The bank donation comes on the back on major contributions from the Port Fairy Folk Festival ($100,000) and Woody’s Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay ($65,000).
The total collected so far is $350,000.
Chairperson of the fundraising committee Eda Ritchie thanked community members and organisations for getting behind the appeal.
“Major contributions from the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Murray to Moyne, the community bank, Rotary, the Lane Foundation, the Gall Foundation and the O’Toole Foundation, and very generous individuals, have helped us raise $350,000 so far,” she said.
“However, our target of $500,000 is a big stretch, so it would be fantastic if the community really got behind the campaign to support this essential service and make whatever contribution they can. The easiest way is to donate at www.urgentcareappeal.com.au or pick up a brochure from the post office, newsagency or Moyne Health Services.”
