Detective Senior Constable Richard Hughes, of the Warrnambool police crime investigation unit, said the ute was stolen from a dairy farm in Noorat some time overnight Monday.
“It’s believed the offenders have then driven the utility to the Terang BP service station in High Street where a burglary was committed,” he said.
“The thieves have forced entry to the service station where they have removed a large quantity of cigarettes, lighters, filters and cash.
“The cash register was also removed and found in the burnt out utility at Tehans Road in Glenormiston South.”
Detective Senior Constable Hughes said the utility was torched and completely destroyed.
He said crime scene officers would examine both the service station and the stolen burnt-out ute.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
