To celebrate Warrnambool’s centenary as a city, the council asked residents for their ideas and suggestions as to what should be placed inside the capsule.
Two Paul Jennings books (the popular children’s author lives in Warrnambool), an Oddball plush toy, an old rotary phone, a copy of The Standard from April 5, 2018, a copy of By These We Flourish and a large woollen mill blanket were placed in the box..
Other items included were Maremma dog collars, an indigenous message stick, three May Races booklets, Whaleboat regatta medals, a map of the town and a map of Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museuem.
The city celebrated on Sunday with a community party at Flagstaff Hill.
Warrnambool was officially gazetted as a city on April 5, 1918.
In May that year then Governor, Sir Arthur Stanley, travelled to Warrnambool where, from the steps of the Town Hall, he made the proclamation.
