But there are fears about increased traffic accessing Raglan Parade.
A Woolworths spokesman confirmed construction on the development, which was approved by Warrnambool City Council in March last year, would begin next month. “We can confirm the Dennington Woolworths Caltex development will commence construction in June and is expected to be completed by November this year,” the spokesman said.
Dennington Community Association president John Harris said members of the association were concerned the increased traffic could lead to accidents.
“We have some concerns about the increase in traffic,” Mr Harris said.
“It will be quite congested and we’re worried there will be accidents if the traffic enters and exits the service station from Raglan Parade.”
Mr Harris said the group would like the opportunity to speak to a Woolworths representative about the proposal and their concerns.
“We’d be happy if someone would come and have a chat to us and perhaps alleviate some of our concerns,” he said.
Mr Harris said the community was delighted to have a Woolworths supermarket and welcomed the addition of the service station, but wanted to ensure the town remained safe.
“The new Woolworths Caltex will bring a number of employment opportunities to the Dennington area including construction jobs during development and 10 permanent roles when the fuel station opens later this year. “
Woolworths has indicated the petrol station would have four bowsers, a kiosk and convenience outlet, on-site car parking, a loading bay and provisions for business identification signage.
The service station would be located next to the Dennington Woolworths shopping complex.
Councillor Peter Hulin raised concerns regarding access and safety at the site when council approved the application in 2017.
