Sergeant Martin Flannery of the Portland Police delivered the advice after a number of cars attempted to avoid routine questioning across the weekend.

“Evading police is a silly mistake,” he said.

“It’s not a question of if we will stop chasing, we may have to do that to protect the general public.

“But we will follow up and when we do, we will throw the book at them.”
