Mawson said he was proud to receive the best-on-ground honour but quickly shifted the focus back onto the team.
“I feel pretty good,” he said. “It was a pretty good game and we played really well as a team and got over the line which was good.
“I feel like we won it from being able to get the ball from the midfield into our forward line and we were really good hitting our forward targets in big E-man (Emmanuel Ajang), who was there clunking everything.”
Hamilton Kangaroos-aligned Mawson received praise from Bottle Greens coach Ben van de Camp.
“He was brilliant. He was clean on the ground, his foot skills were sublime and he brought other players into the game, which was really fantastic,” he said.
“As much as you hate to see it from a club point of view for Hamilton, I hope Josh can get into the (Greater Western Victoria) Rebels side and get the reward for his effort, as he was awesome today.”
