Operation Safe will run from July through to the football finals.
Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh said police would be looking to reduce the supply of alcohol to underage teens and reduce assaults and criminal damage.
“We’ve seen an increase in assaults which are not related to family violence,” he said.
“The major link is alcohol involvement.
“We want to reduce alcohol consumption and the risk of people who become violent because of it.”
Senior Sergeant Keogh said the patrols would be random but people could expect to see more police in and around pubs, restaurants and football clubs.
“We will be targeting underage drinking and drunk and intoxicated people,” he said.
He said the patrols would increase around the time of football finals.
