They’ve worked together as netball coaches at Hampden league level, overseeing a period of success at North Warrnambool Eagles.
Now, Sharon Kenna and Dot Jenkins are preparing to coach against one another for the first time.
Kenna’s Camperdown will welcome Jenkins’ North Warrnambool to Leura Oval on Saturday.
Jenkins said they had the utmost respect for each other.
“It will be tough for both of us because we know each other so well,” she said.
“As much as I want to win, it doesn’t matter if I don’t because she will.”
Kenna agreed with Jenkins’ sentiments.
“I am very good friends with Dot,” she said.
“She has helped me out a lot and I’ve helped her out a lot.”
Jenkins said Kenna’s analytical approach was her biggest asset as a leader.
“She reads the game well and makes good decisions,” she said.
“She has very strong knowledge and brings a bit of a different outlook to a club.
“Although she gets nervous, as we all do, she brings a calm presence.
“We’re both like ducks – sailing along and our legs are peddling really fast.”
Kenna said Jenkins backed her players in and was subsequently rewarded with consistent performances.
“She always has a really solid game plan,” she said.
“They’re all expected to know what to do out in their positions. They love Dot out there; she’s been there forever. They have come up the junior ranks with her.”
Eagles shooter Skye Billings (achilles) has returned to the court but will be managed on a week-by-week basis.
