The 31-year-old joined Portland’s 200-game club on Wednesday, more than 13 years since playing his first senior match.
Egan said new faces who arrived in the off-season had a positive effect on team morale.
“A few boys who arrived in the off-season, Paddy Pekin and that, they’ve brought the ‘love your mates’ theme into the club,” he said.
"Blokes are just working hard for each other on the track and we’re really getting around each other when we’re having a beer up at the club and that.
“We’re just really making it about your mates. You don’t want to be out there not giving an effort. But that’s been our motto – we just want to crack in.”
Egan said belief was growing in the Tigers’ ranks after an unbeaten start.
