Sergeant Danny Wright of Warrnambool police said a section of the Terang-Mortlake Road near Hood Ave, east of the Mortlake P-12 College, was closed after about 20 litres of insecticide spilled on to a 200 metre stretch of the road.
Sergeant Wright said the insecticide spilt from a pierced container.
He said the spill was reported about 5.30pm on Thursday and the CFA was called in to clean up the insecticide.
VicRoads imposed traffic diversions about the affected road section during the incident.
