TWO Warrnambool friends are celebrating winning gold in their international basketball debuts after helping Australia to victory at the FIBA Under 16 Asia Cup on Sunday night.

Guards Liam Herbert (10 points) and Jay Rantall (five) played their roles in Australia’s 91-67 win over host nation China.

The Crocs have qualified for the under 17 world cup in Argentina in June.

Australia made the decider after winning its semi-final against New Zealand 86-61 on Saturday.

Rantall scored three points in the victory.

Australia secured a hard fought 69-60 quarter-final triumph over South Korea on Friday with Rantall dropping 10 points.
