The efforts of the CFA have continued on a long tradition of keeping the community safe.
This photo was taken back in 1989 and shows the delivery of a new fire truck to the St Helens CFA.
Checking out the new truck was St Helens CFA members Bruce Furnell and Max Humphries along with Belfast group officer David Wright.
The newspaper report from the day states the truck was an Isuzu that came at a cost of $62,000.
The occasion also marked the opening of the new St Helens CFA station which at $23,000, cost considerably less than the new truck.
St Helens farmers Joyce and Frank Bartlett donated the land for the station to be built on which was situated on the St Helens-Codrington Road.
A plaque was unveiled to acknowledge the Bartlett’s generous donation. The new truck was part of the CFA’s aim to phase out its old Austin fire trucks.
