The trio of classy gallopers are trained from Darren Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stable where McLean is the foreman.
Tosen Stardom was solidly backed to win the Orr Stakes a fortnight ago, before letting his supporters down – finishing in 11th place but McLean said there are excuses for that performance.
“Just forget Tosen Stardom ran in the Orr,” he said.
“Jockey Damian (Lane) was caught in no-mans land from the wide barrier. It will pay to forget that run – every horse is entitled to a bad run. I was impressed with his trackwork on Tuesday.
“He’s a two time group one winner – you can’t forget that fact.”
Humidor and Brave Smash also have strong chances in the Futurity, according to McLean.
“Humidor is first up after failing in the Melbourne Cup,” he said.
“I rate Humidor the second best horse in Australia behind the mighty mare Winx. He usually runs well fresh and Brave Smash put in a great run to finish third in the Orr and he’s worked well since that effort.”
Native Solider carries the hopes of Weir’s Warrnambool stable when he lines up in the $2million Blue Diamond Stakes while Gailo Chop, Gallic Chieftain and Prevailing Winds are other runners that are trained at his seaside stable.
Hamilton mare Jester Halo runs in the Mannerism Stakes. Aaron Purcell, who has stables at Caulfield and Warrnambool accepted with Lady Esprit and Rellson on the tough nine race program.
