A STRONG start with bat and ball is how Woolsthorpe opening batsman Stephen Blacker believes the Warriors can hand top-placed Panmure its first loss of the Grassmere Cricket Association two-day season.

Early breakthroughs with the ball will be critical for the Warriors.
“If we can get them early and get quick wickets, then we can restrict their freedom later on,” Blacker said.
“They have a strong side right across the board.
“We would like to see off their good batters early and make sure their middle order cannot come in and play freely.
“We have a relatively good new-ball attack and bowling has been our strength. We have Jason Alberts, Joseph Whitton and Andrew Bridge, who are all experienced WDCA cricketers and have been doing well lately.”
Blacker said that a positive start from the Warriors’ openers would allow their middle order to fire later in the innings.
“The top order need to build a strong base and with wickets in hand we can build a strong score,” he said.
“We have some blokes who can be damaging in the last 20 overs, so if we can get a nice platform early then those guys later in the innings can come in and play with more freedom.”
Blacker highlighted the Mahony brothers as the Panmure players Woolsthorpe hope to limit.
“Any side with three Mahonys in it is going to be dangerous ,” he said.
“The Mahony boys are all good. Paddy is captain of the association country week squad and he is a very good player, Tom is a good bat and Sam is good with the ball.”
