Bumper field to rev up at meeting

PREMIER Speedway is expecting a bumper 120-strong field of cars to draw a mammoth audience to its Open Wheel Mayhem Night on Sunday.

General manager David Mills said his staff were facing “logistical issues” with scores of speedcars, wingless sprintcars and formula 500s set to descend on the Allansford venue.

He expected a strong crowd to follow.

“There’s plenty of good racing to come on Sunday, with that many cars and feature events,” Mills said.

Mills said a varied range of cars diversified the audience and added another facet to the speedway’s racing calendar.

“Speedcars in particular had a bit of a lull a few years back, but they’re right on the up again,” he said.

“We’re getting good numbers now. We’ve had nominations in the mid-30s and that draws racers to the track for their Victorian Championship.

“It’s a bit of a hectic time and we’re just hopeful people can get out to have a look.”
