Cobden’s Chey Beaver will be one of thousands of year 12 students facing a restless night’s sleep ahead of the release of VCE results on Friday.

The Mercy Regional College student said although she had studied hard all year, the nerves were kicking in.
“I want to do nursing at Geelong (Deakin Waterfront) next year,” she said.
“I need a 65, which is achievable, but you never know. I’ve got my fingers crossed.”
Chey, 18, will be one of many students across the state accessing their ATAR scores via a new app from 7am Friday morning.
After a year of juggling work and study, and making little sacrifices along the way, Chey is hopeful her results reflect the effort she put in.
“It was stressful year, with SACs and assignments, but that’s what you expect. There were no surprises,” she said.
“We were really lucky to have a really good year group, that made things a lot easier. It helped to be able to focus on my subjects.
“We had really good teachers as well always giving up their time for us.”
Chey worked at the Cobden Bakery throughout year 12 to help set herself up for life beyond school.
“I gave up netball this year, which I found really hard. I’d been playing at Camperdown… but, for me, I had to prioritise,” she said.
“I knew I needed money so I knew I had to work and I had to do well at school. That’s how I managed it.”
The teenager will stay in the region over summer, working at the bakery and as a lifeguard at local pools, before hopefully making the move to Geelong.
Chey’s sister is heading into year 12 next year and is hoping to follow a similar career path. Chey has some sage advice for her and others making the journey into their final year of school.
“Just to enjoy it and try not to stress too much,” she said.
“Everybody says that year 12 flies and it’s probably the best years of your life. It’s true, but you don’t listen. That would be my advice – you blink and it’s over.”
From this year, ATAR and study scores can only be accessed online, by app or in the post.
VTAC director Catherine Wills said it was important students were organised with how they wanted to receive their results.
“The key to getting the most out of these choices will be making sure they don’t leave downloading the apps until the last minute, and have current log in details on hand from 7am on Friday,” she said.
