The fire at Mooralla, between Hamilton and Horsham, was last assessed to be at about 870 hectares.
District five duty officer Stephen Giddens said CFA and Forrest Fire Management crews had worked overnight to contain the fire.
“They’ll be there all day and we’ll assess our strategy for today and tonight,” hes said.
He said the terrain was made up of bush and pasture which meant different appliances were needed to control the blaze.
“Even though we’ve had rain in the last couple of weeks the underground is tinder dry,” he said.
“People need to be vigilant and have a fire plan to enact for when summer comes.”
The Vic Emergency website has stated that weather conditions may increase fire activity and nearby residents have been urged to monitor conditions.
An earlier emergency warning for a fire at Balmoral was downgraded to 'advice', firefighters stopping the blaze spreading from the recreation reserve on Harrow Road.That fire is now considered to be contained.
