Warrnambool East Rotary Club’s Peter Reeve said a members held a working bee this month and they were excited for the competition to begin.
“We’re going to try to make it look more like a professional golf course this year,” Mr Reeve said. “One of our guys is a green keeper at the golf course and he’s going to try and cut the fairway so it’s got some shape to it.
“We’ll have a bunker, some rough and the fairway so it will look more golf course like than it has perhaps in the past.”
He said they would put the finishing touches on after members worked to scarify and top dress the rabbit damaged area as part of routine maintenance.
Fencing and signage will go up in early December with up to 100 local businesses supporting the annual fundraiser which also gives entrants the chance to win a Kia Picanto.
The summer tradition raised between $65,000 and $70,000 for the club last year. “That goes back into the community, year after year. It’s just fabulous and it gets bigger and bigger every year.
“I think people are really good at supporting it because they know it goes to Rotary and its a good cause. We spend a lot of money in our community making lives better for people and also on a wider level, nationally and overseas.”
