In a nod to the event’s popularity, it will be the first of two triathlons held there this athletics season.
“Killarney has always been really popular, so we thought it might be really good for people to do it twice,” Warrnambool Tri Club vice-president Claire Farrer said.
“There’s a ‘come and try’ and then there’s the open section.
“The come and try is a 250m swim, 8km bike ride and 2.2km run.
“It’s good for people who are new to the sport.”
The come and try will be a one-lap circuit of the course.
The open triathlon will be two laps for serious competitors.
Farrer said the club would also host junior races on Saturday afternoon, starting at 4pm.
Children up to 12 years old able to register on the day for the race.
The open category, from 9am on Sunday, is for senior competitors and those over 13 years old, with pre-registration required via a link on the club’s website.
