Delightful Cat defeated Jonjonjonny and Kumo in the $18,000 race to register her second victory from eleven starts.
Trainer Noel Rees said Delightful Cat had worked well in the lead-up to the race.
“We gave her a good break after she failed in a race at Warrnambool back in June,” Rees said.
“She failed to run out a strong 1700 metres on the heavy track. I’ve got a doubt that she can run 1700 metres.
“She may be best in the shorter distance races. We’ve always thought she would be a handy mare as she ran fifth at this year’s May carnival in a very good race behind handy horses like The Passage and Havadash before running not too bad down the straight at Flemington.”
Jockey Jason Benbow gave a glowing report to Rees following the win of Delightful Cat.
“She’s got plenty of upside,” he said. “She’s still raw and tough but I think she may run best when fresh and I believe there’s plenty of natural improvement in her.”
