The support follows comments from former Warrnambool resident Dr Rosalie Boyce in Wednesday’s edition of The Standard.
Now based in Brisbane, Dr Boyce described Warrnambool’s breakwater precinct as “world-class” and expressed a need for better access to the beach side area.
More than 75 per cent of The Standard readers expressed support for changes to the current bus network.
One reader suggested a hop-on hop-off shuttle bus including several of the city’s tourism highlights.
“Around the key sights making city and tourism spots accessible to all, including those that arrive by car, train and plane.”
Another agreed the extended bus route idea was “worth a seasonal trial over summer holiday period”.
Some readers were surprised with the current transport limitations.
“There isn’t one? God this town is backwards when it comes to transport,” a reader said. “You go to any tourist town and there is a service to the popular spots.”
Concerns regarding bus changes included space for buses to maneouvre following proposed upgrades and a call to prioritise school bus routes before tourism.
A Transport for Victoria spokesman said bus routes could be reviewed if public demand was demonstrated.
“Transport for Victoria regularly reviews its bus networks to ensure they are continuing to meet the needs of passengers,” he said.
Members of the public are welcome to submit any re-routing suggestions they may have to Public Transport Victoria at ptv.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 007 800.
