The Liebig Street cafe, and soon to be burger bar, has new, specially constructed street furniture for diners to enjoy a meal on.
Owner Mark Brightwell said he had ordered the tables from Warrnambool-based furniture maker Lignum et Ferro.
“The tables were specially made, because we wanted to make the most of the new streetscape,” he said.
“With the nice weather the tables have been full.
“It’s nice to see.”
Warrnambool City councillor Peter Hulin has called on traders to set a high standard for their shop displays and furniture on the street.
He praised the style of Pitstop Menswear and Brightbird’s designs.
“A comment that I’ve been making is that you’ve got a magnificent streetscape now and you have some traders that have done a great job on their infrastructure for their business,” he said.
“I think that it would be really good if everybody set the standard as high as it possibly could be so that this streetscape can be as good as it can.”
Cr Hulin said the Warrnambool City Council had spent $15 million on the project and encouraged shop owners to put some money and thought into their displays.
“It would be wonderful now if the shop owners would look at their furniture and bring it up to the same standard,” Cr Hulin said.
He said the streetscape works were complemented by the installation of zebra crossings at the Lava Street roundabout.
“It’s fantastic to have them there,” he said.
“We have finally given the citizens of this city safety with the crossings. We are creating a caring community.
“People are stopping at the crossings and allowing people to walk through.”
The CBD renewal works have begun at the intersection of Liebig and Koroit streets.
The eastern half of the roundabout will be closed until mid to late November while the roundabout is rebuilt. At the eastern approach to the roundabout a U-turn will be in place allowing motorists to turn around before the roundabout and to park on the north side of Koroit Street.
